Growing up in India, you are exposed to two shockingly different worlds. One with progressive forward-thinking individuals, and another in which women are put down and treated like second-class citizens.
For the longest time, if you were a girl from a respectable family, you didn't drink alcohol. And if you did, it was all very hush-hush and preferably within the confines of home where no one can see you or judge you. We wanted to challenge this and empower women to drink and have a good time when they go out.
Now, this is a bit less specific to India and more for women across the world. We are always told how to conduct ourselves in acceptable and respectable ways: how to walk, talk, sit, and behave 'like a lady.' So, we decided to change what it means to 'Drink like a lady.'
Barsys is an app-controlled cocktail machine that aimed to enter the Indian market and appeal to individuals aged 21-30. To captivate their attention in a memorable way for Women’s Day, '#DrinkLikeALady' was conceptualised.
